Luzerne-Lackawanna Brewery Tour
In May of 1991 we conducted our first tour of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton breweries. The event was the first jointly sponsored event of the Luzerne Historical and Geological Library in Wilkes-Barre and the Lackawanna Historical Society in Scranton. In 1993 the E.C.B.A. sponsored our second tour and the A.B.A. sponsored our third tour in June of 1995. One primary source of information on Scranton was an out of print book by Nick Petula entitled Brewed in Scranton. Since the tours Robert A. Janosov published a book on the Stegmaier brewery entitled Cold and Gold (1997). Click here for my ABA Journal story about our tours.

The Stegmaier Brewery as seen in 1991. It has since been partially demolished and partially restored, and is a U.S. Postal Service building which houses a beautiful mural of the plant complex. See Success Stories: How We Saved the Stegmaier. |
