Nationally
known brewery architect Otto C. Wolf was born in Philadelphia in
1856. He graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the
University of Pennsylvania in 1876. From 1880 to 1882 he worked in
Chicago, but returned to Philadelphia in 1883 to open his own
engineering and architecture firm. Wolf's specialty was industrial
buildings, excelling in breweries, cold storage buildings, grain
elevators, ice-making and refrigerating plants, lighting and power
plants. Wolf's Philadelphia clients included brewers Louis Bergdoll,
Frederick A. Poth, John F. Betz, Christian Schmidt and Theodore
Finkenauer, to name just a few.
In 2012 dedicated home brewer
Tim Patton purchased the former Finkenauer Brewery Stable building to
house his new 3-barrel nano brew pub, The Saint Benjamin Brewing
Company. The rest of the Finkenauer brewery complex to the east
between 5th St and Germantown Ave. was demolished in the 1950s. Join
us for this great program and be among the first to experience the
ambiance of the soon-to-be-opened Saint Benjamin Brewing Company. Tim
is brewing up a special batch of beer for us to enjoy.
